Hardshell roof top tents are the next generation in rooftents. Like teh name suggests typically have a hard shell made of aluminium, fibreglass or ABS plastic. Some variation in design with some working better than others. Usually set up and pack down faster than softshell tents and often can carry gear up on top as well.
